“When adapting Dawn to fashion, I wanted the pattern to feel like it belonged to the garment rather than simply being placed on it. Clothing introduces something that a flat surface cannot—movement. Fabric folds, stretches, drapes, and changes with the person wearing it, and I wanted Dawn’s geometry to become part of that experience.
One of the things I find most interesting about the collection is how differently the same pattern responds to each silhouette. On a T-shirt or polo, Dawn can feel structured and balanced. Across a flowing dress, skirt, or wide-leg pant, the geometry begins to move and change as the fabric moves. On footwear, the pattern wraps around a three-dimensional form, while on a scarf it can be folded, tied, and draped so that different parts of the design are revealed each time it is worn.
That versatility was important to me. I didn’t want Dawn to belong to only one type of person, one occasion, or one way of dressing. Someone might choose a scarf or pair of shoes as a subtle introduction to the pattern, while someone else might prefer a dress, shirt, or pair of pants that allows Dawn to become the centerpiece of the entire look.
I also wanted the collection to have a life beyond a particular fashion season. Trends change quickly, but principles such as balance, proportion, rhythm, and thoughtful composition can remain relevant much longer. My goal was to create a pattern that could move between casual and more refined pieces while maintaining its identity and still giving the wearer freedom to make it their own.
For me, that is where the fashion collection becomes especially meaningful. Dawn begins as a geometric composition, but once someone wears it, the design is no longer static. It moves with them, becomes part of their personal style, and takes on a life that I could never completely determine from the drawing alone.
That transformation—from an original pattern into something personal, wearable, and lived in—is what I find most exciting about seeing Dawn expressed through fashion.”
