Drawing inspiration from rhythms, movement traditions, and cultural landscapes from around the world, each Dance Story brings together two familiar expressions of Dawn within a new geometric composition of repetition, direction, contrast, and movement.
From the rhythmic character of Chub Bazi and the expressive energy of Flamenco, to the precision of Kathak, the communal movement of Syabru, and the transnational rhythm of Salsa, each story finds its own identity while remaining unmistakably part of Dawn.

Origins: Dawn Dance Stories began with another simple creative question:
What happens when Dawn meets the colors it inspired?
At the heart of every Dance Story are two familiar expressions: Original Dawn and one of its eight Spice Stories.
Rather than replacing or redesigning either one, Dance Stories brings them together through a shared checkerboard composition. Vertical and horizontal arrangements alternate across the design, creating repetition, contrast, direction, and visual movement.
The structure remains consistent across all eight stories. What changes is the pairing—and with it, the rhythm, atmosphere, and personality of the composition.
This is where color begins to move.

Inspired by Rhythm, Movement & the World Around Us
The inspiration for Dance Stories comes from the extraordinary ways people across the world express rhythm through movement, gathering, celebration, storytelling, ceremony, and performance.
Each story begins with its corresponding Spice Story and looks outward—to cultural, linguistic, historical, geographic, or artistic connections that can lead Dawn into a new world of movement. The aim is not to reproduce a traditional textile or translate a dance literally into pattern.
Instead, these traditions and cultural landscapes become points of inspiration.
Chub Bazi turns toward the historic cultural crossroads of Greater Khorasan. Flamenco draws from the expressive traditions of Andalusia and the wider Spanish cultural landscape. Garba looks toward Gujarat, while Kathak finds inspiration in rhythm, movement, and storytelling across the North Indian cultural world.
Salsa reflects a transnational journey shaped by Caribbean, Latin, and New York influences. Ngoma draws from diverse East and southern African traditions of music, movement, and communal performance. Syabru looks toward the Himalayan cultural landscape, while Bourrée brings the journey into the traditional dance world of central France.
The result is a family of contemporary designs connected not by one place, but by the world’s many expressions of rhythm.

Every Dance Story begins with two designs already belonging to the Dawn family: Original Dawn and one of its Spice Stories.
Neither disappears. Instead, the two are brought together within a shared composition where alternating blocks, changing orientation, repetition, and contrast create a new visual rhythm.
What Connects Them Is the Structure.
Across all eight Dance Stories, the checkerboard arrangement creates a shared visual language.
The proportions, placement, orientation, scale, and repetition follow the same compositional system first explored through Kathak, born from Original Dawn and Elaichi.
What changes is the paired Spice Story—and with it, the color, character, atmosphere, and cultural point of inspiration.
Through this repeatable approach, Dawn can move through entirely different expressions while preserving a recognizable family identity.
